Encounter LE Here is the information about Encounter LE which is a mini version of Encounter that is held at Lubbock Christian University on November 16-18. This is the weekend before Thanksgiving and because of the distance, we will have to leave Friday morning causing you to miss some school. If you have never experienced Encounter, this is your chance for a life changing weekend. The LE stands for limited edition. This is a spiritual retreat for high school students and will give you a break from the chaos of the school year and help you regain your focus on God. There will be amazing speakers and breakout sessions, “exciting entertainment, and plenty of time for you to have fun with great people. The cost is $50 per person and you must register on line before November 2. To register go to LCUcamps.com and follow the links, after November 2 the price goes up to $55. I need to know how many students plan on going so it would really help if you would sign up on the sheets posted at the Activity Center. We would have to leave Friday morning on November 16 so, you will miss a day of school. We plan on returning on Sunday after worship, so it will be late Sunday evening before we arrive home. We will probably be staying in a home of friends of the church so plan on sleeping on the floor, bring a sleeping bag and pillow. You will also need money for 2 meals going up and 2 meals coming back; I am guessing you will need another $50. They have Josh Haynes and Nate Bundy speaking and they always have awesome entertainment, so don’t miss it! Fall Festival On Wednesday, October 31, we will have our annual Fall Festival in the gym from 5-8 p.m. This means that I will need students to help with the Bible Maze, the dancing skeletons, and puppets. I hope you can help, especially if you are a puppeteer. We will be doing the same program that we did at the Southern New Mexico State Fair. The maze will be set up earlier in the week, and we usually have several students in the maze that are pretending to be a bible character from the book of John. This means that will will need a person to play the invalid at the Pool of Bethesda, the Man born Blind, Lazarus, and Mary Magdalene who just saw Jesus after his resurrection. The Dancing skelly’s will be dancing to the tune of Ezekiel’s “Them bones” which is part of the hay ride. If you are
interested in serving, again the sign-up sheets are on the bulleting board at the activity center. Please sign up today! Secret Church Last Wednesday over 40 people met for secret church upstairs in the gym. We had some awesome singing lead by Peyton, Micah, and Kaden and it sounded really good, we also watched a few videos about the church in China and what they have been facing in the last couple of months. Since secret church involves everyone in the youth group, we did not have middle school class on Tuesday night. Just a reminder, we will have regular classes this week, so the Middle school will start back up on Tuesday night this week at 7 p.m. and Huddles will be back at the Russell’s for one more meeting at their home from 6-8 p.m. Then we will cancel all classes, so we can work at the Fall Festival on Wednesday October 31. Then we will back to a regular schedule in the month of November until Wednesday November 14 for the blessing Ball. Sorry for so much confusion but if you check your calendar you will see all the changes are planned in advanced. Drama I am only meeting with a few teens to help plan out the chorography for one of the skits but next week, everyone that is interested is encouraged to attend. We are doing a special routine and a few skits for Fabulous 13. Drama will start at 3:30 to 4:30 on Sunday afternoons starting next week. That is a change for what is on the calendars so please take note. Drama is for both middle school and high school but you have to make the rehearsals if you want to participate. Fabulous 13 is February 16 so if you can’t be there that day, there is no reason to be in drama. News and Notes Sunday – Bible Bowl 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday – special Drama 3:30-4:30 p.m. Monday – visitation with vista Middle school 3:45 – 4:45 p.m. Tuesday – Middle School Class 7-8 p.m.
Wednesday – Huddles at the Russell’s 142 Lytton Circle 6-8 p.m. October 27 – Why conference in El Pao TX October 31 – Fall Festival Birthdays There are no birthdays this week, from Oct. 21-27 so have a very merry happy unbirthday Parents Page If you have misplaced your calendars for the semester, there are more in the high school room and you are welcome to pick up another copy. I am trying something different this semester by canceling some classes and combining them once a month to see how that will work. But it does create some confusion so having a calendar or newsletter will help you stay on top of things. You can also go to the youth website www.highvolt.com that is usually updated every week with vital information. Then again You can always give me a call if there is some confusion. I also try texting everyone the day of the event, so if I am texting to the wrong number of if you would like to be added, please let me know. Because of Thanksgiving next month things are changed up a bit. Footwashing is going to be on the second Wednesday instead of the third, and the Middle school dinner and a movie has also been moved up. If you have any questions please let me know. Thanks for your support! David
