Welcome 6th graders
I have been visiting our new 6th graders over the past 2 weeks.  So far, I have seen eleven 6th graders out of twenty-one, so I am hoping that all our new 6th graders will choose to be involved.  When you see some new faces, please encourage them by getting to know them.  Forming friends within the youth group is an important process of developing faith.  I want to remind the 6th graders that we will be meeting after school on Monday, August 20 from around 4-5 p.m. to work on a special project for Fabulous 13.  We are making banners out of felt and you will be working with other 6th graders to make this banner.  I will be picking up some that need transportation so if you cannot get a ride to the church building please let me know.  Also, our two new high school interns will be working with you as well and picking up milkshakes from Sonic.  So, start making plans to join us on Monday’s!

Summer Dreaming
This Friday, August 17, we will be celebrating the end of summer and the beginning of school.  The activity is called Summer Dreaming.  We will meet at the activity center at 6 p.m. and make sure everyone is registered.  We need a parent release from for each teen because we are traveling to various locations.  I mailed these out on Wednesday, so you should have one, but I have more at the connection central desk if you want to invite a friend or if you did not receive one.  The cost is $20 a person which includes all the activities.  Originally, we planned to go to Western Playland, but after checking on prices and times, I discovered that Western Playland will be CLOSED!  So, you can imagine my surprise, but I think we have put together a good program.  We will have an open gym on Friday from 6-8 p.m. this will include a special inflatable called “Nerf Wars” which is exactly what is sounds like.  We will have a short devotional around 7:30 p.m. then travel to Rockin Jump  on Solano for 2 more hours of jumping on trampolines, dodgeball, and having fun.  Afterwards, we will travel to one of the movie theaters to watch a movie or we will travel back to the Activity Center to watch a movie.  We will not know which movie until Monday because of how the movies are released at Allen theater.  After the movie we ask that your parents pick you up.  We will let you know the location when you
register.  It will be a great evening, it is available for 6th – 12th grades.  Don’t miss it!

Parent/Teen Meeting
Next Sunday, August 26, there will be a parent/teen meeting in the high school room after 2nd service.  This will be a brief meeting to discuss the next four months and to provide an opportunity for parents to sign up to help.  We need help with huddles, and middle school dinner and a movie.  Parents are welcome to attend any youth activity so take a few moments that Sunday to see where you can serve.  Teens are also welcomed to attend the meeting, you too should know what is going on this semester and the after the meeting, pick another family and go out to eat together.  It is important to meet other families within the youth group to help strengthen relationships.

Fall Retreat
The fall retreat is Scheduled for September 14-16 at Mountain View Christian Camp in Ruidoso.  We will leave after school and join other youth groups for a great weekend together in the mountains.  You stay in cabins and we have activities throughout the weekend that I know you will enjoy.  So, mark your calendar and plan on spending some time with God and your friends.  I believe the cost will be around $40 – $45 per person that will cover transportation, food, counselors, worship music, and a special speaker.  It is a great deal for 2 nights in the beautiful mountains of Ruidoso.  Housing is limited, so pick up a registration form and turn it in before the deadline, September 9, after that the cost goes up.

Parents Page
With school starting up this week, I know things are rather hectic.  The middle school will be starting up their class this Tuesday from 7-8 p.m.  If you need help with transportation, please let me know by sending me a text message.  We will probably do some special orientation classes to start with to get the new 6th graders involved with the middle school group.  High school will participate with the college group at the food truck rally in the church parking lot.  We will get some food, then meet to discuss the fall semester.  We will be meeting from 6-8 p.m.   The main activity this month is Summer Dreaming which is Friday, August 17 from 6-midnight.  The cost is $20, the main cost is the trampoline park called Rockin Jump, located on Solano.  The are charging us 18$ for jumping and for special socks.  They movie cost will be about $5-7 so we are not breaking even, so the youth fund will cover the rest of the cost.  Any contribution to the youth fund is appreciated to help keep our cost down.  Thanks for your support, God Bless, David
